IRW #3: A Moment of Incandescence
Welcome back, friends!
This week we celebrate our innate fascination with all things that glow.
Into the Night by Sara Scribner
Original available
Soft edges and subtle tone shifts make your eyes linger on this stunning piece. There’s something mysterious and otherworldly here – are those trees or nebulae in the background? Stars, embers, or fireflies floating around? I’m enchanted.
Fortitude by Liz Gridley
Original available from Off the Kerb Gallery | Prints available
Many of Liz’s paintings explore the human figure surrounded by beautiful, colorful clouds. I like this piece in particular because of the contrast between the yellow tones in the face against the deep blue behind, as well as the confident abstraction moving into the neck and shoulders.
Persephone Beguiled by Kaysha Siemens
Original sold | Prints available
If I could take all of Kaysha’s paintings and put them in a book about mythology and fairy tales for adults, I would put it on my coffee table immediately. She has a talent for unique composition combined with perfectly stylized realism.
The Lost Embrace by Mishfit
Original sold | Prints available
Allowing the raw substrate to peek through your painting is always a bit of a gamble, but Mishfit has accomplished it to great effect here. I admire the bold choice of contrasting blue and orange surrounding the figures.
Lipolai Constellation by Tenaya Sky Sims
Original available
Tenaya is probably best known for his large-scale, epic, and wonderfully dramatic masterpieces, but there’s something about this little treasure that I love. Outstanding use of texture and color.
